
Here in Texas where I live we've been in a drought for several weeks. Now that we're in September, we feel the gradual cooling and shortening of the days. It's so subtle it's easy to miss. And yet tuning to these changes brings hope and steadiness: this burning heat will not last forever.
When we have a drought in the soul, we, too, long to know that the burning will not last forever. We long to know that we will be watered. This haiku arose from that longing.
Lilium
After the long drought
The rain lilies awaken
My heart wants the same
